Pond Lily

2′ x 2′ Charcoal, watercolour, and encaustic painting. 2015

This piece was a delight to work on. Started with a expressive charcoal sketch, added a base of water colour and build up the texture with encaustic medium. When I first envisioned this piece, in my mind a saw the vibrant orange line around the lily. But I have to admit, I was so hesitant to add this splash of orange! The piece was beautiful, natural and I was so worried that I would ruin it with the bold orange.  In the end, I decided to honour my original visions and go for it and I am thrilled I did. It was a lesson in trusting myself and the voice of my inner creative.
